Packaging suggestions when sending cartridges to I.T.P.

Most suggestions are pure common-sense but you would be amazed how some cartridges are received. The main objective is to package the cartridges in such a manner so as to ensure safe transit. A broken cartridge has no value to I.T.P., the charities or yourself!

Small consignments being collected by courier or post

  • Where possible put the cartridge back in it's original packaging and tape the boxes together in bundles of ten cartridges
  • If you do not have room to store the cartridges perhaps put two cartridges in an original box or several in a bigger box with some form of protective packaging. Remember if the box is too heavy for you to lift it will probably also be too heavy for the courier to lift and get "rolled" out the vehicle rather than lifted!
  • I.T.P. can supply large collection sacks to put your cartridge boxes in if you feel it would help.

Consignments being collected by an I.T.P. driver

  • These can be packaged however you wish but again original packing is the best way. If you have no packaging the I.T.P. drivers carry boxes and packaging on their vehicles and will be able to package it for you.

Personal deliveries

  • Any personal deliveries are dealt with at I.T.P.'s warehouses. It is helpful if the cartridges are in boxes that can be put on a pallet so as your delivery can be kept together and separate from others.

Large consignments by road, sea or air

If you are sending a large consignment then special care needs to be taken to ensure safe transit.

  • Remember some cartridges break more easily than others. Put extra protection round these "problem" cartridges like the C4092A and IBM 4019 so as to prevent actuator tabs and drum shutters breaking.
  • Layer your boxes with bubble-wrap and cardboard, a bit of newspaper around a cartridge does not really help
  • Make sure the boxes you use are strong enough, remember the boxes at the bottom support much more weight than those at the top!
  • Shrink-wrap the pallet fully and firmly. If you have a strapping machine use this as well
  • Use Euro pallets where possible, most freight companies deal with these better than standard pallets
  • Label the pallets clearly with the total number of pallets/boxes being sent. Use the print an address label option on this site to help you.
  • Utilise all the space! If your packaging is good I.T.P. would rather receive one pallet 1.8m high than two 0.90m high

Remember, a broken cartridge is no good to anyone!
